In Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Heres How To Perform Crossplay

How To Play Minecraft Cross-Platform (PC, Console, & Mobile!)

You only need to add and invite your friends to your world to play cross-platform. Heres how to do it:

  • Sign into your Microsoft account after starting Minecraft . If youre not already signed in, youll notice a button for this on the main menu. Console gamers will also require an online membership, such as Xbox Live or Nintendo Switch Online, for their device.
  • Start by loading an existing world or creating a new one. Open the in-game pause menu after your environment has loaded. On the following screen, pick Find Cross-Platform Friends from the Invite to Game menu on the far right.
  • Select Add Friend after finding your friends using their Minecraft ID, commonly known as their gamertag.
  • Friends who have been added and are available for multiplayer will appear in the Online Friends section. Click Send 1 Invite after checking the box next to their gamertag. Theyll be loaded into your world after they accept.

Its worth noting that some environments in Bedrock cant be played with other platforms players. This is due to the fact that each system includes exclusive material that can only be found on that console. You cant share the Mario Mash-Up world template with pals on other platforms on the Nintendo Switch, for example. It can only be shared among Switch users.

Joining A Friends Game

If your friend is playing in their own hosted session, you can join them straight through the game. As long as youre friends via Microsoft, you can join their session by scrolling over to the Friends tab and looking under Joinable Cross-Platform Friends.

These sessions can only hold up to eight people at once.

If youre invited to join a session, a pop-up will appear that you can either accept or decline.

Should All Games Be Cross

In a very ideal world, all games are cross-platform and cross-generations. It might be what the future of the gaming industry might look like but today, there are factors and road bumps to consider. One of the reasons why all games are not yet developed to be cross-platform is the cost it entails to make such a thing happen. As it so happens, it does take a lot of financing to be able to plug your game into different platforms.

Another reason why this is not yet 100% feasible is developers mitigating circumstances. While some studios have the resources to experiment with different platforms, some studios just do not have the luxury in status quo and would prefer it to have their games played on the platform they were initially designed for.

Basically, it is a lot easier said than done.

Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Has Full Crossplay Support Now That Ps4 Has Opted In

    Minecraft: Bedrock Edition now supports full crossplay across all platforms, following the imminent arrival of that edition to PlayStation 4. Sony confirmed the news in an announcement today, with the update expected to go live “tomorrow”.;

It’s great news for PS4 fans, as until now players on that platform have been limited to playing with other PS4 owners. It’s also noteworthy for the fact that Minecraft is now a Microsoft property. With the PS4 and Xbox platforms constantly at war over marketshare, it demonstrates that an up-to-date Minecraft is important to both stakeholders. What next, Masterchief skins in The Last of Us: Part 2? .

Of course, this crossplay functionality only applies to the Bedrock Edition, ie, the edition available on the Microsoft Store. If you’re still using Java Edition – which, if you’re into modding, you probably are – then you’ll still be restricted to playing with other PC users of that version.

While Sony has long supported crossplay between PC and PS4, it’s been a bit reluctant to roll out the functionality to other consoles. But that apparently changed in October, with SIE CEO Jim Ryan implying that crossplay is now A-OK.

Just note that there are two different versions of “Minecraft,” and each one of them does crossplay a bit differently. The biggest thing to remember is that you can play “Minecraft” with anyone who owns the same version as you.
