Mud Recipe & Materials
All players will need to craft mud in Minecraft is as many bottles of water as possible and plenty of dirt blocks. Players will need to combine these materials in order to get mud in Minecraft, and the process can be simple even effortless!
Players can gather water in a bottle from just about any water source in the game, whether it be from the ocean, a natural waterfall, or even a small stream. The most challenging aspect of gathering this material is the bottle itself.
Glass bottles can be pretty tough to get your hands on in Minecraft, depending on where your character has spawned or where youve decided to set up your Minecraft base. Each glass bottle will take 3 gass blocks and takes some time to craft.
As a result, it may not be a bad idea to set up a miniature base near a beach simply for the purpose of gathering sand for glass bottles. Doing so can really help players cut down on time overall.
Glass bottles can definitely be reused so, technically players only need one glass bottle for an infinite number of mud blocks. But, having a bunch of glass bottles ready to go will definitely speed up the process.

Block Behavior File #
Block behaviors are structured similarly to entities: they contain a description and a list of components that defines the block’s behavior.
- “identifier” under “description” is already familiar to us.
- “minecraft:loot” defines a loot table path for the block to drop. If this is removed, then the block will drop itself. You can learn more about loot tables here.
- “minecraft:destroy_time” defines how long the player will need to mine the block until it breaks. Currently, it isn’t possible to set different destroy times for different tools.
- “minecraft:explosion_resistance” defines the chance for an explosion to break the block. Higher the value, lower the chance.
- “minecraft:friction” defines how much friction the block has. For example, soulsand has a low value for friction, so it slows the players. Ice has a higher friction value, so it has a slippery effect. The friction of classic blocks such as wood or stone is 0.6.
- “flame_odds” defines how likely the block is to catch fire.
- “burn_odds” defines how likely the block is to be destroyed by fire.
Let’s create some more blocks in BP/blocks. I created these four block for the tutorial:

How Many Blocks Does Minecraft Have
Not all items in Minecraft are blocks, despite everything being made of them. Swords, for example, are not blocks. Air is a block, and so is water, though air can’t be mined or collected.
The total number of usable blocks, according to one Redditor, was over 3000 quite a long time ago.
The number has only gotten higher since then, as several updates have added new blocks.
There are several different blocks, each with unique variations, which further skyrockets the number. There are six main types of wood: jungle, birch, acacia, oak, dark oak and spruce.
Each one of these has logs, planks, stripped logs and all manner of different blocks which again, quickly boost the overall total. Many of these blocks have colored variations as well.
The original Minecraft had just 30 blocks to work with, so the amount has grown exponentially in the 12 years since then. If Minecraft continues at this pace, then the number of blocks in the game is going to get astronomical.

Some of these blocks generate naturally in different places. The loom, for instance, generates organically in shepherds huts. Similarly, cauldrons generate organically in swamp biomes.
How Many Blocks Does Minecraft Contain
A few items within Minecraft are blocks, even though everything is comprised out of blocks. For instance, swords arent blocks. Air is a type of block, as is water, even though it cant be extracted or taken.
According to a Redditor, the total amount of blocks that could be used was more than 3000, a very long time in the past.
Since then, it has increased more pronounced, and numerous updates have added new blocks.
There are many different kinds of blocks, each having its variations, increasing the quantity. In addition, there are six types of wood: wood from the jungle and acacia, birch, dark oak, oak, and spruce.
Each one contains planks, logs stripped logs and various blocks that rapidly increase the overall amount. Some of these blocks feature colour variations too.
The first version of Minecraft was a game with just 30 blocks available. The number of blocks has increased exponentially over the twelve years since then.

This Chapter Is From The Book
As its name suggests, Minecraft is a game in which you need to mine for materials, which you can then craft into other items and materials. These materials largely consist of blocks that can be placed and removed to create pretty much anything you can imagine. Blocks can be made of stone, wood, glass, clay, wool, or fancy ores, and many can be crafted into a variety of forms. Other items include tools, food, books, potions, and so much more. Add to this all the creatures in the game, both friendly and hostile, and there is a lot to learn and discover.
One of the amazing things about Minecraft is that it is constantly changing and being updated. The creators at Mojang regularly release updates that introduce new blocks, items, and mobs. Players can get a glimpse of what is coming with something Mojang calls snapshots. Snapshots are pre-release versions of an update that players can download and try out. Because of these updates, books like this sometimes dont have the most up-to-date information. Version 1.8 is being released as this book is being completed, so while we look at some of the newest additions, they may change a bit.
Its always a good idea to check the wiki for the most recent information on things youre interested in. Of course, there is also much that wont changewe take a look at some of those items, mobs, places, and more.

How Many Blocks Make Up The Nether
The Nether is actually eight times smaller than the Overworld, bringing its own set of challenges when portalling between the two. This difference in size means that one Overworld block is the equivalent to eight in The Nether, and this must be taken into account when travelling between the two. However, this does mean you can travel further, faster by using The Nether!
For example, if you wanted to travel 7,000 blocks in the Overworld, it would take a long time. Instead, build a Nether Portal at the start, head inside, and travel just 875 blocks in The Nether. Build another Nether Portal, head on through, and youll find yourself 7,000 blocks away from your first portal! In Java Edition, this will also earn you the Subspace Bubble Advancement for using The Nether to travel at least 7km in the Overworld.

Block Resource File #
The resource definition for blocks differs from entities/items because all the definitions appear in a single file. The only two things we can define for blocks are its sound and its textures.
As you can see, every block’s identifier is applied with textures and step sounds. When we define the textures, we use their shortnames which we will define in terrain_texture.json later on. There are 3 ways we can define the texture of a block:
- “wiki:blocky”& “wiki:flashing” have the same texture on each side of the block. We will be animating the texture for “wiki:flashing” later on.
- “wiki:sapp_log” has 3 different textures the top of the block, the bottom of the block & the remaining sides of the block.
- “wiki:compass_block” has a different texture for each side of the block.
