  • How To Use A Beacon In Minecraft

Now that youve built your Beacon, find a suitable spot to place it. However, dont expect it to work just yet. If you do, it wont do anything. To use a Beacon in Minecraft, youve gotta perform some extra steps. However, you should see the screen above when the Beacon is in use. This screen is how you control the status effects.

To activate the Beacon, you must place it atop an Iron Block Pyramid, Gold Block Pyramid, Emerald Block Pyradmid, or Diamond Block Pyramid. The type of block you use will not affect the status effects received – it is entirely a cosmetic choice on your part.

The larger the pyramid, the greater status effects you will receive. For each Tier, you unlock a status effect. One may only be activated at a time, along with the Regeneration buff. Increasing your Pyramid Tier will also increase the radius range of the status buffs.

The Pyramid Tiers are are as such:

    How To Craft A Beacon

The crafting recipe for constructing a beacon is relatively simple: a dome of 5 glass blocks, a base of 3 obsidian blocks, and a single Nether star nestled in the middle. Sounds easy enough, but crafting a beacon first requires that you, well, actually have all of these resources. The former ingredients are easy to come by, but the latter? You have to summon and defeat the Wither,, which has its own process and requirements to complete.

The Wither is one of the big bosses in Minecraft, right alongside the Ender Dragon. When you defeat it, it drops a single Nether star, which will allow you to craft a single beacon. Want more beacons? Beat more Withers. It’s not a fight to be taken lightly, however, so make sure you’re duly prepared.

    Obtaining Obsidian In Minecraft

There are a number of ways to obtain obsidian in Minecraft. It generates naturally on the surface of the End, as part of end ship in end cities, in woodland mansions containing a diamond block, or in some underwater ravines and caves.

If you need to create obsidian, it forms when spring water flows into lava and can be mined at layer ten or lower. You can also mine a Nether portal in the Nether or Overworld.

Weve spotlighted quite a few examples of what happens when genre fandom and a love of Legos merge. You get things like Inception remade with Legos, the SpaceballsTheyve gone to plaid!scene remade with Legos, or a bizarre Lego mash-up of Star Wars and M.C. Escher. But come on, guys, Legos are so last century. Everybody knows that the hip new outlet for people with creativity and a lot of free time is Minecraft!

If youre not familiar with Minecraft, its a sandbox game that basically allows users to build things. Pretty much anything you can imagine, you can build it in Minecraft. It is, as I suggested above, sort of like Legos only with an unlimited number of blocks and nigh infinite space in which to build. Blastr has pored over the realms of Minecraft and posted two dozen or so pretty amazing recreations of SF and fantasy icons such as Minas Tirith from Lord of the Rings and Hogwarts from Harry Potter. You can see the full gallery over there, but weve picked out our favorite SF-related recreations and posted them below. Im particularly fond of the TNG-era Enterprise and the White Star from Babylon 5.

    How To Craft Minecraft Fireworks

To craft a firework rocket, you need at minimum one paper and one gunpowder. You can add up to two additional gunpowder to increase the flight duration of the rocket thats how far itll soar.

However, if you want those pretty explosion effects, youll need to include a firework star. The creation of the firework star is where you get to customise your fireworks explosion. To make a firework star, combine gunpowder with up to eight dyes to set the explosion colour. You can also add glowstone dust to create a twinkle effect, and/or a diamond to create a trail effect after the explosion. Both of these effects can be added to the same star.

You can also customise the shape of your firework explosion. Adding a fire charge will create a large, spherical explosion a gold nugget will make a star-shaped explosion a head of any type will create an explosion in the shape of a creeper face, and a feather will create a burst shape explosion. However, only one of these shape modifiers can be used in your firework star.

Once youve created your star, you can add an additional fade to colour effect by combining the star with any dye.

Tatooine And Coruscant Took A Year To Build In Minecraft And The Whole Star Wars Galaxy Is Next

Minecraft has proven to be a terrific outlet for creative players, and has hosted some of the most ambitious creations the gaming community has ever undertaken. But once people started building the entire Earth in Minecraft, what could possibly top it? How about an entire galaxy? The entire Star Wars galaxy, to be precise.

Player vistachess has spent the past year building Tatooine and Coruscant as part of an effort to get the whole Star Wars galaxy in an open world adventure map. The map was created with a combination of WorldPainter and WorldEdit, as vistachess explains on Reddit, and you can see a bit of the process in a making-of video on .

Building the whole Star Wars galaxy sounds impossibly ambitious, but even if this project were to end now, the recreations of Tatooine and Coruscant are already astounding in scope and detail. Tatooine features everything from the whole of Mos Eisley to the most obscure outlying homesteads, and the massive city-planet of Coruscant similarly features everything from the senate building to Dexs diner and uncountable little buildings in between.

You can for yourself if youre running Minecraft 1.12.2, or simply take a closer look in the video below.

    Crafting The Beacon Pyramid

A beacon will only activate when placed on a pyramid. To build this pyramid, you’ll need iron, gold, emerald, diamond, or netherite blocks. You can use just one or all of these four resources together when building your pyramid however, you’ll need a lot of them.

Quick tip: Iron, gold, and netherite blocks are made by crafting a full 3×3 grid of their respective ingots. Emerald and diamond blocks require a full 3×3 grid of regular emeralds or diamonds, respectively.

Pyramids can have up to four levels, with each level giving the pyramid more powers and a wider range.

    • A level one pyramid will require a 3×3 base, which takes 9 blocks.
    • A level two pyramid will require a 5×5 base and a 3×3 top, which takes 34 blocks.
    • A level three pyramid will require a 7×7 base, 5×5 second layer, and a 3×3 top, which takes 83 blocks.
    • A level four pyramid will require a 9×9 block base, 7×7 second layer, 5×5 third layer, and a 3×3 top, which takes 164 blocks.

Once you’ve built your pyramid, place the beacon on top, in the very center spot. It’ll activate immediately.

How To Build And Use A Beacon In Minecraft

Beacons in Minecraft are useful items that provide status effects to players. These buffs include Speed, Haste, Resistance, Jump Boost, and Strength. Beacons are especially useful for travelling around the settlement you have constructed, the place where you primarily spend most of your time. The larger you build your pyramid, the greater the range these status buffs remain in effect.

While it is a lengthy process to build and use a Beacon in Minecraft, it is totally doable! This guide will show you first how to build a beacon and then how to use a Beacon in Minecraft.

How To Build A Beacon In Minecraft

To build a beacon, you will need access to 5x Glass, 3x Obsidian and 1x Nether. To craft glass, gather 5x blocks of sand and place it in a furnace. 1x Coal is enough for all of the sand.

Obsidian can be found in the Overworld at randomly generated broken Nether portals. It can also be found underground at spots where water naturally mixes with lava. If you do not have obsidian and need to make it yourself, find a spot with lava and gather 3x Lava Buckets. Then, find a body of water anywhere and pour the lava on 3 separate lava blocks. This will create Obsidian. Obsidian can only be mined with a Diamond Pickaxe.

Finally, you must have 1x Nether Star. This item is only available by spawning and beating the Wither, a boss mob. This is the most time-consuming process of building a beacon, so best to take time preparing to defeat this Wither boss.

Once all of your materials have been gathered, you are ready to build the Beacon. To build a Beacon in Minecraft, place the Nether Star in the middle slot of the Crafting Table. Place the 3x Obsidian along the bottom row of the Crafting Table. Place the 5x Glass in the remaining 5 slots of the Crafting Table. See picture above.

    Now you have your Beacon!

How To Build A Pyramid For The Beacon In Minecraft

To activate a Beacon, you must place it on top of a Pyramid. The Pyramid must be built from Iron, Gold, Diamond, Netherite, or Emerald blocks. You can use a mixture of these if you dont have enough of a single type of block.

You must make the Pyramid with between one and four layers. The taller you make the Pyramid, the more effects you can gain from the Beacon. The size of the Pyramid also increases the range within which you can gain the status effects.

To get the most out of your Beacon, you should make a 4-level Pyramid. For the base layer, place your blocks in a 9×9 square. Then, place a 7×7 square on top, followed by a 5×5 square and then a 3×3 square for the top layer. When you have constructed the Pyramid, place your Beacon on top of the centre block on the top layer to activate it.

If you dont have enough blocks to make a Pyramid with 4 layers, you can remove the bottom layer to make it a slightly weaker Pyramid. For example, if you only have enough blocks for 3 layers, you can make the base layer the 7×7 square and then keep building up to make a 3-level Pyramid. However, this will remove some of the possible bonus effects.

How To Use Your ‘minecraft’ Beacon

8 bit mario star Minecraft Map

Once the beacon is activated, you can right-click it to open its menu. In this menu, feed it ingots, diamonds, or emeralds to gain power-ups. The level four pyramid will give you the biggest boosts, but even a small one-level pyramid still gives you access to minor mining and movement speed buffs.

Just note that these buffs don’t cover the entire world. The level one pyramid’s buffs affect everyone in a 20 block radius, the level two pyramid covers a 30 block radius, and so on. Once you leave the coverage area, your buffs will last for about 10 to 15 seconds before fading away.

If you pick a power-up, but later change your mind and want a different one, don’t sweat it: You can always go back and modify the status boost given by the beacon. Just note that you’ll need to give up another ingot, diamond, or emerald.

To enable all the power-ups at the same time, you’ll need to craft six different beacons, and either place them on six pyramids, or a modified 10×11, 8×9, 6×7, and 4×5 level pyramid.

Choose the location of your beacon pyramid wisely, as deconstructing it will be time consuming.

How To Make A Nether Star In Minecraft

This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft a nether star with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

In Minecraft, a nether star is an item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game.

Let’s explore how to add a nether star to your inventory.

    Finding A Nether Star

  • Get to the Nether by making a Nether Portal.
  • In the Nether, mine at least four blocks of soul sand. These are gray-brown blocks found on the ground throughout the Nether.
  • Collect three wither skeleton skulls. Wither skeletons are difficult enemies found in fortresses throughout the Nether, and have a 2.5 percent chance to drop a skull when killed.

Wither skeletons are harder to kill than regular skeletons. William Antonelli/Insider

  • In either the Nether or Overworld we’d recommend the Overworld, since there’s more room to run around stack the soul sand in a “T” shape, and place the three skulls on top of the sand. Once you’ve done it, run away.
  • In a few seconds, the Wither will spawn and create a massive explosion around itself. Once the explosion fades, fight and kill it. How you do that is up to you, but be careful.

  • Once the Wither is killed, it’ll drop a Nether Star.
