Minecraft: Using Commands To Change Game Modes
Using Minecraft’s console commands, players can change game modes on the fly and for multiple different targets if they wish. The syntax for the required game mode command is slightly different depending on the platform being played on, but the base command structure is essentially the same.
The base syntax for the “game mode” command can be found below for each platform:
Minecraft: Java Edition
- /gamemode < gameMode>
- /gamemode < gameModeID.
Before using these commands, players must ensure that they have cheats enabled on their respective platforms or have operator privileges active for themselves on their server. Without these enabled, the commands will not process correctly in the chat window.
Once these have been enabled, however, inputting the commands is simple. For the argument < mode> or < gameMode> , players can insert the game mode they’d like to switch to, such as Creative, Adventure, Spectator, or Survival.
For < gameModeID> , Minecraft players can also input the number 0 for Survival Mode, 1 for Creative, and 2 for Adventure Mode.
The < player> designation is optional as it is unused, then the game mode will change for the player who inputs it. However, Minecraft players can insert specific player screen names in order to change their specific game mode.
It Makes You Invisible
Other players will not be able to see you when you’re in spectator mode unless they also happen to be spectating the world. This is why spectator mode is often used by administrators on Minecraft servers to check up on any players who might be secretly breaking the rules.

However, if the Glowing status effect is active on the player who’s spectating, it’s possible even for non-spectators to see the player in question. This makes for a fun little prank to pull on your friends who might not expect a ghostly, hovering, and glowing form of another player to pop up before them.

Basic Features In Spectator Mode
There are a few basic features in this mode. First of all, you can fly just like in creative mode and even move through blocks seamlessly, which provides X-ray vision. You can also move through any type of entity, see all objects around, and remain invisible all the while.
To spectate a specific player or entity, you just need to get close to it and press the left mouse button. In order to cycle through players, you can use the number keys. Press Shift again to return to free fly mode.

You Cannot Die Usually
As a spectator, death isn’t technically an option. There are actually only two things that can effectively deal damage to you and end your existence while in spectator mode. The first one is falling into the void, while the second involves being killed through the /kill command.
Otherwise, everything else is safe. Hazards like suffocation are simply not a thing since the player can clip through blocks with ease. The same goes for lava and fire, which don’t burn the spectator. Drowning is equally impossible.
It’s Still Exclusive To Java Edition
Unfortunately for Bedrock Edition players, spectator mode is a luxury only properly working for Java Edition players. Although it’s possible to access a version of spectator mode through mods in Bedrock, the whole function is still quite unstable. Developers have confirmed the feature is coming to Bedrock in the future.
Meanwhile, spectator mode remains one of the core four gamemodes in Java Edition. It’s most commonly seen at the end of hardcore survival worlds as the only option left for the player since they can’t respawn into the world.

Items Can’t Be Interacted With
It goes without saying that items cannot be interacted with. If you happen to have any items left over from your survival or adventure gameplay in your inventory, you won’t be able to use them while in spectator mode.
Similarly, interacting with any of the game’s GUIs, such as a crafting table or furnace, doesn’t work. They can certainly be accessed by the player, but you won’t be able to do anything with them.
Minecraft Find Amethyst In Caves And Cliffs
Amethyst is a resource that players can find in Minecraft. The players will be able to craft spyglass and tinted glass from Amethyst Shards. Players wish to learn where to find Amethyst in Caves and Cliffs. The players should first understand how to deduce if the resource Amethyst or not. Amethyst geodes are always made of the same compositions, an outer layer of smooth basalt, a middle layer of calcite, and a hollow layer of amethyst blocks. If this composition doesnt exist then it isnt an Amethyst Geode. The Caves and Cliffs location for Amethyst Geode in Minecraft is in the overworld between the coordinates Y=70 and the bedrock layer. When The Person Starts Spectating
Before that person starts spectating, you need to use these commands on them, you could do this when you first give them the spectator tag.
Make them invisible for a while, and show no particles.
You don’t want them breaking/placing blocks, do you?
Make them immune to damage.
So they can’t hit entities, they won’t even deal any knockback or be able to break armor stands! Also make sure they do not have a bow, armor, milk, potions etc., if you need to be sure use /clear.
Containers Have No Loot
While spectating, you might find hidden structures in your world and get curious about what’s inside. Unless searching a chest that you or another player deliberately placed down, containers can’t actually be opened if they spawn random loot inside.
This is because the loot for untouched containers is calculated at the moment a player first opens the container. So, don’t even think about using spectator mode to cheat and check chests all over your Minecraft world.

Poll: To Show Things Off Would Spectator Mode Be Considered Cheating
When I’m showing of the builds in my survival world I’m often tempted to go into creative mode just to get a good view on it. However, I have to abstain becouse it would discredit the survival aspect of my world.
To show things off, would spectator mode be considered cheating? – Single Choice
Quote from KosaroAs said above. In your eyes, is spectator mode cheaty?

Quote from SkylinerwYou cannot obtain spectator mode without OP. If you had OP to begin with, you already had access to creative. So essentially nothing has changed for multiplayer, where OPs can use what they have access to. In survival, players do go into creative for showing off builds with flight, and spectator mode would just have the noclip advantage. People will call you out if they must, but it’s really up to you what to do!EDIT: Made some clarifications.
