Dont Dig The Way It Seems The Quickest

Even though digging straight up or down feels like the quickest way to discover and explore the depths of the virtual world of Minecraft, it doesnt make it the most tactical move. Worst comes worst, it can be an invitation to swift death as well. While digging down, if you hit a mine or cavern, you could potentially fall and die. This doesnt just end with death but you would also lose all your gears as well.

Similarly, digging up doesnt seem like an easier choice either. In fact, its rather riskier. You could hit the water, drown down the shaft and end up having your mine get flooded as well. In other cases, you could potentially find yourself at the tail end of another cave, too. The best way to ensure you dont end up at a dead-end is to dig in the staircase and also dig all around you from time to time. This not only helps you widen your space but can save you from severe damage.

Survived Your First Night Here’s What To Do Next

Getting Started: Minecraft Tips and Resources for Parents

Now that you have survived your first night, you can venture out to collect more materials, as well as hopefully some food and wool – for a bed. A bed is a huge time saver in the long run because it allows you to sleep peacefully through the dark half of the game’s cycle, but only if you have the materials to craft it and a place to put it. It’s quite possible to find all these materials on your first day, and it will help a great deal.

A bed requires three blocks of wool , which you can get by harvesting a sheep. Of course, killing the sheep will only net you one wool block . Line the three blocks of wool up in a horizontal row on your Crafting Table, and three wood planks underneath them.

Now, if you’re looking to build a house in Minecraft that’s a bit more advanced than the rudimentary hut you survived in last night, try this out:

  • Block out a 5×4 area and build a wall three blocks high around the perimeter. You can use any material, but bricks are probably the best choice since they’re stronger than dirt or or sand.
  • You can build a roof or a lip around the outside to stop monsters from jumping inside. Place your bed in the middle of this area, not the corner.
  • If you don’t have time or resources to make a proper shelter, you can make a platform instead, at least three blocks high. This will be too high for enemies to jump up onto, and you can safely rest here until sunrise.

Related to our interest, you will see a Single-Player as well as a Multiplayer option in the main menu. The multiplayer option allows other Minecraft players to join online and have online matches and battles. Minecraft gives a wide array of choices when choosing the preferred Game Mode including Survival, Creative, Adventure, Spectator, and Hardcore. Some modes might relate to each other in one way or another like Survival and Hardcore. On the other hand, there are modes that either give you a free choice of movement without being vulnerable to death and flying around or only act as a spectator.

Before you go on and Create a New World, make sure youre familiar with how each game mode works and only then continue onwards.

Dropping Blocks As You Walk

Now you know how to drop blocks, let’s use our moving location to drop blocks when you walk.

The following code will drop a flower behind you wherever you walk:

frommcpi.minecraftimportMinecraftfromtimeimportsleepmc=Minecraft.createflower=38whileTrue:x, y, z=mc.player.getPosmc.setBlocksleep

Now walk forward for a while and turn around to see the flowers you have left behind you.

Since we used a while True loop this will go on forever. To stop it, hit Ctrl + C in the Python window.

Try flying through the air and see the flowers you leave in the sky:

What if we only wanted to drop flowers when the player walks on grass? We can use getBlock to find out what type a block is:

x, y, z=mc.player.getPos # player position this_block=mc.getBlock # block IDprint

This tells you the location of the block you’re standing in . We want to know what type of block we’re standing on. For this we subtract 1 from the y value and use getBlock to determine what type of block we’re standing on:

x, y, z=mc.player.getPos # player position block_beneath=mc.getBlock # block IDprint

This tells us the ID of the block the player is standing on.

Test this out by running a loop to print the block ID of whatever you’re currently standing on:

whileTrue:x, y, z=mc.player.getPosblock_beneath=mc.getBlockprint

We can use an if statement to choose whether or not we plant a flower:

Perhaps next we could turn the tile we’re standing on into grass if it isn’t grass already:

How To Use Command Blocks

First, place the command block on the ground like any other block. Look at the command block from the side, and you may notice an arrow.

These arrows will always point towards the player when placing down. The arrows show the flow of execution. As shown in the image, the block on the left will execute first, followed by the middle command block, and finally the last block on the right will execute.

Click the Use button to open up the command block user interface.

Four: Understanding The Hunger Meter And Gathering Food

You now have a shelter and tools but you are missing the one necessity for survival â food. As you walk, sprint, and jump, you’ll begin to use up energy indicated by your hunger meter, your hunger meter will be on the bottom right of your screen and is represented by chunks of meat. As your hunger meter begins to drain you will lose the ability to regenerate health when having lost 2 hunger and sprint when having lost everything but 3 parts of your hunger meter. And you will only be to regain these abilities by consuming food and replenishing the bar.

The different difficulty modes will affect your hunger meter. In peaceful mode, your hunger meter will not deplete over time. On easy and normal it will degrade over time, resulting in an inability to regain health and sprint â when it reaches zero, your health will drain until half health on easy, and half a heart on normal. On hardcore when it reaches zero it will drain your health until you die.

To replenish your hunger meter you must eat food. Early on your main source of food will come from animals like cows, pigs, and chickens. Simply kill one of these animals and retrieve the meat it drops.

Put your coal in the bottom spot of the furnace along with the food in the top spot and wait about ten seconds for the food to cook. Take the food out once it’s cooked and consume to gain more hunger points.

Later on, you can start making farms like wheat farms or mushroom farms, or even melon farms if you find the materials.

Entering The Stone Age

Cave entrances usually expose stone, but be cautious about going into the depths!

Once the player has crafted a pickaxe, they can successfully acquire cobblestone to make better tools. Cobblestone is collected by finding stone, then mining it with any pickaxe. Stone mined with any pickaxe drops as a cobblestone item. Besides the “original” gray stone, there are three other kinds of rock you can find, which are good for building, but you cannot use them to craft tools. White diorite and reddish granite are fairly obvious, but andesite is also gray, and can easily be mistaken for proper stone when you start mining, check the block that you get in your inventory to make sure it’s actually cobblestone instead of an andesite block.

If no stone appears above ground near the player, stone can also be found by digging into the ground. The stone layer usually appears within 5 blocks under dirt and grass, or within 8 blocks under sand and sandstone. Remember to never mine out the block you are standing on, unless you know that what’s below that block isn’t a long fall, lava, or other dangers! Another warning here: Unlike most blocks, sand and gravel can fall, and if they fall on you they can suffocate you. If that happens, don’t panic, just dig yourself out as quickly as you can.

The Objective & Basic Controls In Minecraft

MineColonies – How To Get Started: Modded Minecraft

Before we get into how to play Minecraft, visit Minecraft.net to purchase and download the game. Minecraft is available on most modern platforms, consoles and smartphones.

For this guide, well be focusing on Minecraft on Windows, Mac, and Linux. But once you understand the basics, they can be applied to any version on any platform.

There isnt a main objective in Minecraft, but there is a certain flow of gameplay that is recommended for everybody. You start in this huge open world with nothing, and must gather materials from scratch to build yourself a shelter, get food, build a bed and survive until the next day.

From there, you can begin to go mining for valuable resources like iron ore and diamond to create powerful tools, weapons, and armor. As you play for longer, youll be able to explore the open world, find villages, loot hidden chests, and fight enemy creatures called mobs.

Before we begin with any of that though, we should take you through the basics.

Start by opening Minecraft. Click Singleplayer and then click Create New World.

Click the Game Mode button until Survival is visible. The fun starts in Survival mode, where you must survive and gather everything for yourself. We recommend you stick to the standard controls. Here is an overview:

Everything in Minecraft must be mined or crafted. So if you wanted to build tools for example, you must mine the base resources for them, and then craft them. It starts at the very basic level and goes from there.
