If you want to gather the honey safely, you will need a campfire as well. The campfire will make the bees docile and not attack you when you collect the honey. Of course, in order to get the honey in the first place, you will need a beehive or a bee nest to collect from. You can find them in plains, flower forests, forests, and hill biomes.

Bringing A Bee Nest To Another Location

You can break a nest and transport it and its bees to another location using a tool with Silk Touch. When you use a Silk Touch enchanted tool, the bees stay inside the nest and dont get aggravated. The best time to try this method is either when its raining or at night when bees return to their nest.

Once you place the nest in a more convenient location, you can follow the same steps listed above to harvest honey:

Using a tool without Silk Touch will break a bee nest, but it wont drop anything. The bees surrounding the nest will also get angry and swarm the player, even if you have a campfire going.

Wait For Bees To Make Honey

Making honey takes a while, so youre going to need a lot of patience while the bees get to work. Youll know that honey is ready to harvest or reaches Level 5 when you see glimmers of honey seeping out of the beehive block. You may also see honey on the floor if you chose to put your beehive on a scaffolding.

How To Gather Honey And Honeycomb In Minecraft

The reason for seeking out Bee Nests should be obvious to collect Honey and Honeycombs! These arent incredibly helpful items in their own right, but they can be used for a variety of purposes.

How To Get Honey

To get honey in Minecraft, youll need to harvest it from a beehive or bee nest. These will only be ready for you to harvest once enough bees have returned to the nest with pollen.

Each beehive houses three bees. Each bee will leave one at a time during the day, flying around and pollinating different flowers. When theyve done this, their appearance will change and theyll soon return to their beehive.

Once this has happened five times, youll notice that the beehive looks a little different. It will be literally dripping with honey.

When this happens, walk over to the hive and use a glass bottle. This will give you a Honey Bottle.

What Is Honey Used For in Minecraft?

Honey can be used to restore six hunger and 2.4 saturation. It even has antidote properties, meaning that itll remove any Poison status effects you might have picked up on your travels.

How To Spawn Your Own Bee Nests With Saplings

If you don’t want to search for a bee nest, try spawning one yourself! To do this, you will need saplings, flowers, and bonemeal.

You spawn bee nests yourself by planting saplings near flowers. A sapling will have a 5% chance to spawn a bee nest if it is grown within 2 blocks of a flower. You can speed up the tree’s growth .

This may take a while. However, it is helpful if you are not near an environment where bees will spawn. Bee nests spawned from saplings will hold 1 to 3 bees.

Uses For Extra Drones

One of the side products of hives are a surplus of drones, or drones with undesirable genetics. Some drones of each species should be stored for future use, particularly if they are purebred and have useful traits, but eventually there will simply be far more drones than will ever be used. Excess drones can be fed into a Recycler for scrap, stockpiled for eventual processing into DNA with a Genepool, or crafted into Bait with Mariculture. Extra drones can be used for their aspects with Thaumcraft.
