    Colored Text In Signs Working

Youve been able to put colored text in books for a while now with the § symbol but can you do it with signs? Well yes but no. In the Bedrock edition of Minecraft you can again use the § symbol but in signs to get stylized text just like in books. Java did add colored text functionality but you need to use a dye on a sign to get the text colored.

Well I discovered something very odd. I was recently playing 1.16.2 with my friends having not played Minecraft since 1.12. One of my friends had changed the color of a sign and I assumed they added colored sign functionality. Colored signs wasnt really new to me anyways since the Essentials plugin for servers has had colored sign functionality since as long as I can remember, and it too uses the § symbol. So I got a sign and put the § symbol in and whadaya know! It works!

Except for when you click Done. If you go in a sign right now, put the § symbol and a code, and start typing, your text will be styled. Better yet, if you can see the sign in the background while youre setting the text you can even see the stylized text on the sign! The functionality is there!!! I know Bedrock and Java have some differences in features here and there, but this is a feature lock! Theyve literally coded the functionality of customizable signs in the game but theyve locked the feature to Bedrock only and are making us use dyes instead, limiting the amount of customization we have. What gives?

    Importance Of The Symbol

    Minecraft Color Codes

Before we enter the text for our sign, we need to take a moment to explain the importance of the § symbol.

Color and formatting is added to signs using the § symbol in Bedrock Edition . There are 16 different colors available and 4 formatting options that you can choose from.

The following is the list of color codes and format codes that you can use for signs in Bedrock Edition:

Changing Color Code In Java Edition Of Minecraft

After a formatting code in Java Edition of Minecraft, a color code is used to disable the formatting code across the color code point. To make this easier to understand with words, write them in this order:

Format Text font: Arial, color: red, size: 14pt, bold | Color Text: black

Always type the color code first when using a color code with formatting code. That would look similar to this in textual representation: Color Text: red | Format Text font: Arial, size: 14pt, bold

Dont worry about this if youre using the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft. Even if a formatting code is typed after a color code in Bedrock, it will remain.

In Bedrock Edition, just use §.

The § symbol is used for any text input in Bedrock Version, but it may be used in the pack.mcmeta, server.properties, world titles, and server names in Java. If a color code is used after a formatting code in Java Edition, the formatting code will be disabled afterward if there is no color code following it.

You may also customize the color of your Minecraft Servers Message of the Day by preceding it with a color code. Its as simple as altering a block in Minecraft. Only the codes are different.

To alter the color, go to your Server Properties or Host Files as you would usually do. Insert the correct color code before the message.
