Here at Apex Minecraft Hosting we believe that this game is not only great for entertainment, but also for helping anyone develop intellectually. Anyone that plays the game on our multiplayer servers will learn how to solve problems, work as teams, design buildings, how to code and many more valuable skills. The greatest part about this is that you do not have to stop playing the game to practice these skills as they are constantly present within the game keeping a player constantly challenged. Today we are going to focus on how Minecraft is helping players to understand code from basic principles to advanced programming.

The entire minecraft server itself allows players direct access to playing with the code that is used to control how the server runs. While our customers are changing configuration settings and server properties, they are actually changing the code that is used to boot up the server. This is the first experience that many players will have interacting with the code that controls the game. This can simply be the basic server settings, to more advanced configuration with some other server versions.

Lets Learn To Program Minecraft In Makecode

There are many online resources that teach the basics of coding through Minecraft. Here, we will focus on a free, deeply trusted program through the tech powerhouse Microsoft. Microsofts Makecode is a great FREE website for your child to watch tutorials about how to use the interface and how to get started creating projects. It allows your child to program three different ways either through blocks, simulators, or raw code depending on their comfort level. We recommend the lava tower tutorial as a really cool option to start as well as flower trail. The tutorials are engaging and offer flexibility for your child to try out different programming languages. Furthermore, it also motivates kids to keep learning through a diamond economy that they can use to unlock more features.

What Educators Are Saying About The New Code Builder

I use Minecraft to teach the basic about coding with MakeCode. The students are 10-12 years old and during the time they learn how to code they also discover how a computer works. I think it is important for our students to develop computational skills, because they are going to need it in the future. Leticia Ahumada, Spain

I have students who only use text-based coding and others who struggle with the computational thinking aspect and use the tutorials. I love it because students are engaged, theyre learning and they share their experience with others. Please come try my program is a frequent comment uttered in our coding period. James Wood, U.S.

Code Builder can be taught by teachers that might not have advanced coding skills themselves. Being able to work in a 3D environment is exciting. I love seeing the looks on the faces of my students and there never seems to be any problem with engagement. It helps develop resilience and determination when faced with failure. Great Growth Mindset teaching. Michael Clemens, New Zealand

Right now, 2 middle schools in my district are using the Code Builder and/or the CS curriculum from MEE to teach 6th, 7th, and 8th graders programming. I foresee this being a great way for students to have a wonderful background knowledge in Javascript as they enter high school. Trish Cloud, U.S.

Even with this change, an important question remains can a game actually be used to teach coding? Well, it turns out that with a few tweaks, it can!

Code.org and Microsoft paired up to bring Minecraft coding to students 7 years and older. Through various activities, students can enter this virtual world while learning different coding languages, including block-based coding. The courses come equipped with tutorials that help guide students on how to build their own worlds using the famous game. These courses utilize the theme of Minecraft to help students learn coding as they explore different worlds.
