Creating Your First World

How To Get Started With: Tinkers’ Construct | Modded Minecraft

Now that weve highlighted the benefit of the profile system, its time to create our first world and play!

Lets start off simple by focusing on the Singleplayer experience. In later lessons well learn about Multiplayer and Minecraft Realms. Click on Singleplayer to get started.

Here youll find your local worlds linked to your profile because its a brand new installation there are no worlds yet.

The default game mode is Survival. Click the Game Mode button in the center of the screen to swap it to Creative. Well return to game modes in the next lesson but for now, creative play is the best way to learn the controls and figure out how to move around the Minecraft world.

As for naming your world, were fond of naming the worlds we use for experimenting and learning Learning Lab or some iteration thereof.

Leave More World Options alone, well return to the fun toggles and adjustments available there in a later lesson focused on custom worlds and their creation. Once youve named your world and switched it to Creative, click Create New World, and sit back as Minecraft flexes some of that procedural generation magic in order to create you a unique world to explore.

Entering The Stone Age

Cave entrances usually expose stone, but be cautious about going into the depths!

Once the player has crafted a pickaxe, they can successfully acquire cobblestone to make better tools. Cobblestone is collected by finding stone, then mining it with any pickaxe. Stone mined with any pickaxe drops as a cobblestone item. Besides the “original” gray stone, there are three other kinds of rock you can find, which are good for building, but you cannot use them to craft tools. White diorite and reddish granite are fairly obvious, but andesite is also gray, and can easily be mistaken for proper stone when you start mining, check the block that you get in your inventory to make sure it’s actually cobblestone instead of an andesite block.

If no stone appears above ground near the player, stone can also be found by digging into the ground. The stone layer usually appears within 5 blocks under dirt and grass, or within 8 blocks under sand and sandstone. Remember to never mine out the block you are standing on, unless you know that what’s below that block isn’t a long fall, lava, or other dangers! Another warning here: Unlike most blocks, sand and gravel can fall, and if they fall on you they can suffocate you. If that happens, don’t panic, just dig yourself out as quickly as you can.

What Are Minecraft’s Different Modes

Minecraft offers three modes of play: Adventure, Creative, and Survival. Each has four levels of difficulty: Peaceful, Easy, Normal, and Hard. The difficulty levels determine how threatening the mobs are, up the ante on your health stats, and add other challenges.

Adventure and Survival modes are similar, but Adventure mode is designed for gamers to play on downloadable game maps created by other players. These modes have you battling hostile creatures, building structures, and continually managing your health stats. Creative mode is the best option for novices and younger players: It gives you full access to all the resources in the game so you can build endlessly without worrying about dying or fending off mobs .

Blood For The Blood Altar

Get Started

Now comes time for a part of the mod which users migrating from 1.7.10 will be all too familiar with: cutting yourself to make LP to make slates with. However, there’s a few new tools to help you get through this stage of your life faster, let’s go over them.

The Coat of Arms and the Bloodletter’s Pack are back. Coat of Arms will absorb a very small amount of blood when you engage in combat. The Bloodletter’s Pack will passively harm you and store LP in the pack, but it won’t bring you down below half health. Keep in mind the two armors will not get any benefit from any runes nearby, so they aren’t the most efficient. Still, passive LP gain is passive.

The Incense Altar is new to 1.8+, and is an amazing thing. Basically, you’re going to want to put this outside, with lots of different types of things around. The more different things, the better off you are. Grass, Tilled Dirt, Water, trees… go nuts. The tier 1 incense burner can have stuff in a 3×3 radius affect this. Then, you take your Sacrificial Dagger/Orb and mediate at the Incense Burner for a moment and come back to the Blood Altar to use it. In one shot, you’ll see roughly 90% of your health gone, and you’ll get a bonus multiplier of LP based on some complex formula that is based on how many different things are around your altar.

Building A Grizzly Bear With The Minecraft Entity Wizard

Blockbench itself is a 3D modeling program with native support for many Minecraft 3D model formats. The Entity Wizard is a plugin for Blockbench that can be installed through the built-in plugin store. Once you have created your basic entity in the Entity Wizard, you can continue to use Blockbench to modify the model, and you can edit the behavior in an external program .

To give you a starting point, the Entity Wizard offers most of Minecraft’s vanilla mobs as presets. You can choose the one that is closest to the mob you want to create. For example, if you want to create a shark, choose the dolphin preset. There are also stripped down “basic” presets that you can use if you are a more experienced addon creator and you want to build your behavior from scratch.

In this tutorial, you will learn the following:

  • How to add the Minecraft Entity Wizard plugin to Blockbench.
  • Understand the steps taken to create a custom entity with the Wizard.
  • Export out the entity to use within Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.

Build A Nether Portal

There’s a ton of exploration to be done in the overworld, but those wanting to progress in the game will eventually want to make their way into another dimension known as the Nether. To get there, it’s best to have diamond gear, just to be on the safe side.

RELATED: Minecraft: Things To Know About The Iron Golem

To build a portal into the Nether, the player needs to mine out ten blocks of obsidian, which can only be mined with a diamond pickaxe. Then place them in a two by three doorway. Corners can be any other block. The portal needs to be lit up with a flint and steel, which is made by combining an iron ingot and flint, gained from shoveling gravel.

Build A Shelter Immediately

Getting Started: Minecraft Tips and Resources for Parents

Spending the first night in Minecraft and surviving it through is the toughest thing to do. Especially when you dont have a shelter around you. Talk about enemies, mobs, and wildlife, you are at the risk of them all.

The moment you start playing Minecraft, gathering up the raw materials to make a nice cosy home should be your highest priority. To get the materials for your shelter, gathering up wood and wool is the ultimate top-priority task at hand. Whats a better place to find that than a tree and a sheep? Having a protective surrounding around you keeps you secure and protected from the night creatures as the game begins.

Where There’s A Will There’s A Way

One of the more significant new features is the Demonic Will. You initially start out by crafting Rudimentary Snares and tossing them at hostile mobs . When you see them develop particle effects, that’s when you have a short time to kill them. Doing so while they have the effect on results in them dropping a Demonic Will of varying size. The size of the will is largely random, but it also roughly correlates to the health of the mob you just killed, so an Enderman will typically generate a more powerful Will than a Spider.

Once you have two or three of them, you’re ready to get started with a far more efficient method of generating Will.

First off, you’re going to need a Hellfire Forge. Look it up in JEI for the recipe, the default version requires a Block of Gold and a few other materials. This is what we’re going to use wills with. Take one of your larger wills and put it in the slot to the far right . Now, in the slots to the left, the four outside corner slots are your input, and the one in the middle is your output. Put Redstone, Glass, Gold Ingot, and Lapis Lazuli into the four inputs. It should create a Petty Tartaric Gem. Basically, this is used to store will.

Now, make another Petty Tartaric Gem. You’re going to keep this one in your inventory.

What Age Is Appropriate For Minecraft

There are several different answers to this question depending on who you ask. Some recommend players be at least 8 years old, while others recommend age 10. The Entertainment Software Rating Board gives Minecraft a rating of Everyone 10+. This is the American rating system.

Parents should look at the game for themselves to determine what age they deem appropriate for their children. Some parents may think 10 is appropriate while others would allow their children to play at 7. The decision is ultimately up to each parent.

The PEGI rating is for ages 7+. That rating is a European video game content rating system. Parents should make a judgment for themselves based on what they want their children to play.

Many parents also wonder what other things their children can learn from playing Minecraft. Besides technical skills, kids also learn how to build their social skills. They have to learn how to interact with others as they make their way through the game. This is something they can benefit from their entire lives. Kids learn how to talk with their peers online and make connections. They also learn how to give and take constructive criticism.

Find Means For Steady Food Supply

Owning a few farms and getting food supplies is convenient but as you continue onwards in the game, you soon realize farms alone dont make up for the demand. However, there are more ways of getting a consistent and sustainable food supply than farming, picking from trees, and killing wildlife creatures. Youre going to run out of the sources near your base quicker that way.

Alternatively, the best thing that can be done at this point and ensure that the supply is near your base, start luring the wildlife near your base. Use your wheat from the farms to grab the cows attention and pull them close to the pen youve built for them. Continue to feed and breed them. This not only helps you from running out of food and thus dying due to starvation but consistent breeding yields a sustainable food supply as well.
