The Future Of Minecraft

Minecrafts future certainly doesnt look bleak when you take its ever-growing player base, popularity on Twitch, and overall profitability into consideration. If it continues down this path, it could very well last for another decade.

Even if initial players of Minecraft have grown up or moved onto other games, Minecraft still manages to bring in a new wave of players, as well as hold onto dedicated veteran players, such as popular Minecraft YouTuber, EthosLab, who has been regularly uploading content on the game for over 10 years.

Mods have always been popular in Minecraft and stop it from going stale, allowing more creativity and freedom in a game that already embodies both of those two things. As mentioned earlier, players have downloaded mods over 1 billion times, so the game still has a booming community.

These add-ons range from quality-of-life changes to the game like a revamped interface to downright bizarre, such as a No Cubes mod which, as you might have guessed, makes blocks and horizons round instead of cubic.

There are a huge number of mods available for Minecraft that refresh the experience. In fact, on CurseForge alone, there are over 80,000 mods, a number that continues to grow.

Alongside community-made content to keep the game fresh, Minecraft also receives official patches and updates on a regular basis, including the heavily-anticipated Caves and Cliffs update.

Will Minecraft Stay With Us Forever

If we go by the numbers, the answer is yes. Minecraft is a rare video game that has outgrown the industry and crossed over to another niche: education. Comparing Minecraft to other best-selling games isnt giving us the complete picture. The reason being it is more comparable to another kid stuff: Lego.

Both are initially games for kids that transformed into educational tools. It is this other dimension that gives both enduring attention from users. Parents and educators have also jumped into the bandwagon. Instead of looking at a video game with a disapproving eye, they, in fact, have seen its educational potential.

Thats a hard-to-beat deal that other games can only dream of: parents egging their kids to play a video game.

    Minecraft Stats And Player Count

Here are a few of the most interesting Minecraft statistics and facts I was able to find in my travels including how many people play Minecraft and much more. As always, be sure to check back in the future as I will be updating this post as new and updated stats become available.

Launched in 2011, the three-dimensional sandbox game Minecraft quickly gained a large, loyal following and won accolades for its ability to cross over between the worlds of video games and education. Over the years, it has amassed 250 million registered users and earned its developer, Mojang, a $2.5 billion payday from tech giant Microsoft in 2014.

I recently sat down to see what Minecraft statistics and facts I could dig up. With that many users, there is much about the game that can be measured.

Million People Play Minecraft Every Month

Microsoft officially announces that the sandbox video game Minecraft from Swedish publisher and developer Mojang hosts 55 million unique players every month.

Even well after its public release date in 2011, Minecraft continues to have its success grow, as Microsoft made an official announcement to declare that the sandbox video game from Mojang has monthly count of about 55 million unique players. Not to mention, the title’s sales have resulted in upwards of 121 million copies being sold cumulatively.

For those unaware, this is Microsoft’s official sales and engagement update for Minecraft since June, as the company then confirmed 100 million sales and 40 million unique monthly players. In order to celebrate the sizeable boost in these figures, Microsoft has taken to the title’s official Twitter account to post a couple of tweets with some accompanying animated GIFs that touch on the grand scope of the sandbox release’s successes in relation to sales and monthly users.

For those unaware, Microsoft purchased developer Mojang back in May 2014 for a whopping $2.5 billion in order to acquire the rights to Minecraft after the game’s success continued to mount after its release. This was done despite Dungeon Keeper and Fable series creator Peter Molyneux claiming at the time that the tech firm had originally believed the sandbox title to be “rubbish.”
