Other Tips And Tricks For Finding Diamonds

  • Always bring lots of Torches. Mining is a dark job. If you want to ensure you can see bring the necessary tools.
  • Lava does not guarantee Diamonds. Many players associate Lava with finding rare Ore, but that’s not the truth. Because Lava is most common in the same place that Diamonds are found there is often a crossover.
  • While these are some great tips, Minecraft is vast and limitless. Try discovering your own Diamond mining techniques!

What Is The Best Level/height To Find Diamond

Diamond used to appear between Y=0 and Y=15 with most generated between levels one and five. While the ore still starts generating at 15, it now becomes more and more common as you dig deeper into the earth. Diamond has the highest odds of spawning at Y=-64. You dont want to go all the way to the bottom, however, because youll constantly be interrupted by bedrock. We recommend digging one level above the lowest bedrock. After all, even if the bedrock is part of your floor, thats one less block that could have been useful. If you want the smoothest and fastest mine possible, you should be digging at Y=-57. Since -59 to -64 have a lot of bedrock, this way you can avoid those layers completely and still get info on -58 below you.

If you dont know what level youre at, hit F3 to display your current information and look for the XYZ values.

An important change, however, is the added effect of reduced air exposure. From a technical standpoint, this means when the world is being generated and a diamond ore block is about to be placed in a location where it would be exposed to open air , theres a chance that the ore will be skipped instead. In short, this means there is a higher chance of finding diamond ore if youre mining. If youre the type of player who prefers to delve in caves and only mine the diamonds you visually come across, youre going to get fewer diamonds.

After digging down to Y:-58, the most optimal way to find Diamonds is by using the “branch” or “strip” mining technique in Minecraft. This method is carried out by mining two blocks one at eye level and the one beneath in a straight line and then branching off into other tunnels. Furthermore, there are multiple forms of strip mining.

For instance, players could mine in a straight line for a hundred or so blocks. Instead of digging down another whole set of paths along the walls, they could choose to mine only the blocks at eye level. This approach allows players to expose the blocks above and below within a small hole. On the other hand, Diamond hunters could also use the “trapdoor method,” where they fit themselves into a one-block hole using a trapdoor and continue strip mining. The clever trapdoor technique in Minecraft can save a good deal of time, but it requires players to carry trapdoors with them and can sometimes be challenging to pull off.

Minecraft is available on PC, Android, iOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

Like I have mentioned before, Diamonds are a rare resource and are not that easy to find. So, we will have to be smart on how we are going to find them in a Minecraft World. After the revamp to Ore Distribution in the 1.18 update in Minecraft, Diamond has become more abundant and easier to find when compared to before versions of Minecraft. Diamond starts to generate at Y16 and can be found till Bedrock Level. You will find a good amount of Diamonds in between Y-58 and Y-64. Although Diamonds can generate at Y-64, it drastically tapers off as Bedrock starts to generate before Y-64.

Along with the new Ore Distribution changes, there has been a change to how Diamonds generate as a vein. Diamonds can now be in a vein of max size 4 and lower instead of the 8 max size in Minecraft 1.18. So, you will find Diamonds commonly as a 2 ore vein. This seems like a big nerf but in Minecraft 1.18 you will find more Diamonds. The best way of finding Diamonds is to Strip Mine at Y-59. At that level, mine a 3×3 tunnel and you will come across a lot of Diamonds.

This was all about finding Diamonds in Minecraft 1.18. Hopefully, this guide has helped you. You can also check our guides on Ore Distribution and Dripstone Caves in Minecraft 1.18.

Minecraft : Best Diamond Level

To put things simply, players that are hunting for diamonds in Minecraft 1.18 should target Y-level -58. For the uninitiated, a fans current Y-level can be checked by pressing F3 or typing /tp ~ ~ ~ into the chat window, and indeed quite a lot of digging is required to reach -58. It is recommended that players that are doing this type of digging create two-block-wide holes, as that will reduce their chances of taking a fatal fall.

To note, Y-level -58 is certainly not the only place where diamonds spawn in Minecrafts Caves and Cliffs update, as players can encounter the mineral anywhere between Y-levels 16 and -64. The spawn rate of diamonds does increase quite considerably at deeper levels, though, and players should thus not waste their time looking for the resource closer to the surface. Players should also avoid searching for diamonds between Y-levels -59 and -64, as the bedrock that appears on those levels interferes with the diamond spawn rate.

It is also worth mentioning that the 1.8 update decreases the chances that an ore will appear in a block that is exposed to the air. This means that Minecraft players should not expect to see a lot of diamonds while they are exploring the caves that appear in the lower Y-levels. Indeed, fans will need to take a more proactive approach to finding these valuable minerals, with stripmining being the most effective strategy.

What Should Players Do With Diamonds When They Find Them

Finding diamonds for the first time in Minecraft can be pretty exciting, but many players don’t realize how rare these resources really are in the grand scheme of things. Veterans and those that are super accustomed to finding the precious minerals will have an easier time amassing hoards of them but those that are just starting out may want to consider using their diamonds on specific upgrades until they get used to how to hunt for them.

Diamonds aren’t really used in a lot of endgame items or contraptions but they are required for players that wish to go to the Nether as a Diamond Pickaxe is required for mining Obsidian. The best thing that players can do with their hard-earned diamonds are craft tools, weapons, and armors to help them survive better in harsh environments, as well as gather ores faster.

The first thing that players may want to consider making with some diamonds is a sword. It only takes two diamonds and a stick to put together and is vastly superior to other items that players can make to take on their enemies. Although it’s possible to make armor from diamond, it will take approximately 24 diamonds to craft a full set. It’s much smarter for players to snag a sword to defend themselves and a pickaxe to mine better materials than it is to immediately make armor.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Locations To Find Diamonds In Minecraft 118

How To Find Diamonds In Minecraft

Now that you know the level at which diamonds spawn in Minecraft 1.18, lets go over key locations to look for. And no, not all of them involve digging straight down.

  • Underwater Ravines: Usually, the regular Minecraft ravines generate with lava pool at the bottom or at least take a while for you to climb down. But underwater ravines are a great and safe place to look for diamonds in the game. All you need is to know how to make a Potion of Water Breathing and sharp eyes to locate some exposed diamond ores.
  • Caves: If going underwater seems like too much work, try these new dripstone caves seeds in Minecraft 1.18. They sometimes generate with exposed diamond ores at a deeper level. You might find them in lush caves seeds too, but they are typically surrounded with moss or plants, so some digging will definitely be required.
  • Underground Mining: This is the simplest way to reach diamonds. You need to start mining till you reach the diamond level. Then, you can look for diamond in every direction until you get lucky. But you might fall into a cave in the new update while doing so. Thus, do make sure that the surface below you isnt hollow.

How To Mine Diamonds In Minecraft

In order to extract diamonds from diamond ore, you’ll need either an iron pickaxe or a diamond pickaxe.

Pickaxes made of other materials will still cut through diamond ore, but you won’t actually gather diamonds by doing so. This can potentially waste a diamond ore block that you spent all that time tracking down so make sure you have the appropriate tools equipped!

Speaking of the proper tools: since diamonds spawn underground, you’re going to need to bring plenty of torches with you.

Another useful piece of equipment to bring with you is a water bucket. This is because lava pools and diamond ore tend to populate the same levels. Lava is not only potentially dangerous to you, but it can destroy diamond ore blocks so having water on hand to neutralise these effects is a very good idea.

Diamond mining by exploration

This is perhaps the most time-consuming method of mining diamonds. It’s also potentially quite dangerous, as it’s likely you’ll encounter a lot of enemies. But it is the most organic way of finding diamonds, which allows you to continue exploring the game-world without focussing exclusively on resource farming.

This method basically involves exploring any caves you find. You can enter caves by finding an entrance on the surface, or by breaking into them while digging down. Once underground you’ll find open spaces, as well as shafts leading between caves and levels.

Seams of diamond ore will occasionally be found naturally occurring in these open spaces.

When Will The Warden Release

The Warden and The Deep Dark biome will launch in Minecraft 1.19, also known as The Wild Update. This is set to launch at some point in 2022. Fortunately, The Wild will also introduce cute frogs and fireflies. Maybe we’ll just stick to exploring the new swamps and avoid the Deep Dark altogether, actually. Adorable frogs sound way better than being scared out of my skin, thank you very much.

The Warden was originally planned to launch in the Caves and Cliffs update in Summer 2021. However, this update was split into two parts, with The Warden and the Deep Dark pushed into the second half, known as Caves and Cliffs part 2, or Minecraft 1.18.

At Minecraft Live 2021, Mojang then revealed that the Warden and the Deep Dark would be pushed back even further, announcing that they will now arrive in Minecraft 1.19 in 2022. Caves and Cliffs part 2 is now available, bringing a significant overhaul to terrain generation with lots of new biomes, such as Dripstone caves.

Best Ways To Find Diamonds

Now that we know where Diamonds spawn and how to mine them, it helps to know the most effective ways to find these diamonds. One way to search for Diamonds is to first search for caves. Caves will often lead you down into Diamond territory, and you can often find exposed Diamonds in the walls of caves. This method is often the most enjoyable because you are exploring cave systems, but this also takes most of your focus away from Diamond hunting.

Another popular way to look for diamonds is to Strip Mine. Strip Mining is the act of digging down to a certain level and creating strips where you mine in one direction in a straight line. This is often considered the most effective way to look for Diamonds because 100 percent of your focus is on finding Diamonds instead of exploring. Players will often create a hallway at a level where they want to search for diamonds, then create strip mines next to each other all along the hallway, as is shown below.

Best Diamond Mining Techniques And Tips In Minecraft

Before the 1.18 update, players would have to dig down with a variety of mining techniques to find diamonds. But now, things have changed significantly, so heres what you need to keep in mind.

Torches

Irrespective of the Minecraft version, torches are a must while hunting diamonds. Placing them reduces mob spawning, and they obviously let you see better in the dark. But if you want something more effective, you can brew yourself a Potion of Night Vision.

Deep Slate Caves

Unlike previous versions, cave hunting is the best method to find diamonds in the 1.18 update and not mining. If you look for large caves that go in negative Y levels, you can find diamond ores easily. Even among these caves, those that focus more on deep slate blocks and not the biomes are more useful.

Water Bucket

Another important item you should carry on mining adventures is a water bucket. Thanks to the deep caves and steep mountains, this update can easily kill you by fall damage. A water bucket helps you avoid that, and it also protects you from accidental trips inside caves.

Follow the Lava

If you are a veteran player, you might know that diamonds spawn in higher concentrations near the lava. That remains true even with the diamond ore in Minecraft 1.18 update. When inside a deep slate cave, follow lava to locate diamond ores in the game.

Branch Mining

Strip Mining
